Houston ChronicleA small electrical fire damaged the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in downtown Houston on Friday morning, according to officials with the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.
The damage was minor and quickly contained, authorities said.
Masses and events set for Friday have been canceled while administrators clean up the building, but ordinations for three priests will continue as normal Saturday, according to JoAnn Zuniga, a spokesperson for the archdiocese.
Firefighters Friday morning battled a blaze at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in downtown Houston, officials said.
Emergency responders as of 7 a.m. were at the cathedral, in the 1100 block of St. Joseph Parkway performing extinguishing efforts after getting a call about a building on fire, according to the Houston Fire Department. The fire occurred at the newer building, Zuniga said.
There weren’t injuries to firefighters or residents, officials said.
Department officials were urging people to avoid the area because of heavy traffic.
